"Why is there so much month left at the end of the money?"
The title of this entry is a quote which is acredited to John Barrymore, an American actor, who lived through the Great Depression of the 30's and died during the early part of World WarII
For many of us today we are finding the pressures of meeting our own liabilities each month very difficult. Only today I was reviewing a client's health insurance to find that he was over insured. What I mean by that is he had certain benefits which he was paying for but in fact not actually using or claiming from. This simple exercise has significantly reduced his health insurance bill.
That was one simple exercise which benefited my client and his family. However there is a message in this action! If we take this action a step further and carry out a full financial review of all his financial outgoings (life assurance, serious illness cover, income protection, pension, savings and investments) what sort of saving might be achieved? Who knows? But one thing is for sure he will be looking at the big picture from now on!
Apart from the possible cost saving, a full financial review also gives the appreciation/understanding of what levels of cover you may or may not have. Let's not forget that in the large majority of instances a policy is taken out for a particular reason at a particular time and invariably forgotten about. A better understanding of why the policy was taken out but more importantly a review to see if it is meeting the needs or expectations would HIGHLIGHT the value of the review.
A survey carried out by the League of Credit Unions has shown that household bills are a struggle for more than half the people surveyed! Therefore a full financial review must be an important step to reduce these outgoings or at least get a grip with trying to understand what is going out each month and whether or not a saving can be made.
So in essence the message I'm trying to get across is REVIEW! REVIEW! REVIEW!
